Included within the Manobras no Porto initiative, the Porto Verde Project had two stages. The first intended to map the unused green spaces in the historic centre of the city, and create a physical map which was distributed for free, to instigate the community to occupy and use those spaces. The second stage transformed some of those spaces into community vegetable gardens, with individual lots which were given to those interested. At least two of the vegetable gardens created in 2011 are still functioning today.
